Ankara is the second largest city in Turkey after Istanbul, and is the capital of Turkey.  Being one of the most important industrial and commercial centres of the country, and its location being geographically at the centre of Anatolia, it is also at the  cross-roads for rail and highways serving the trade and transportation linking all over Turkey and the Middle East.

Arup commenced with their engineering services in Turkey in the 1980s through their offices in Istanbul with the design and supervision works of the two projects of the Trans European Motorway running from Edirne at the Greek and Bulgarian borders being linked to Istanbul on the European side and running until Adapazari on the Asian side and then the third project being Ankara-Acikuyu section of the Anatolian Motorway. As the first of a series of Turkish motorway projects, these projects set the new, international standards for the Turkish road constructions. In the following two decades, Arup also provided numerous engineering services for the highly distinguished industrial and building projects of the public and private investors in the country and abroad.

Arup recently set-up their Ankara Office to facilitate more effective engineering services for the public institutions as well as members of the construction sector and the investors of this important region and to pursue infrastructure and major building projects, initiated and  managed from Ankara.
