Nottingham

Nottingham is a vibrant and youthful place, embracing creativity and originality. Its close proximity and excellent transport links to major UK cities and Europe puts the city at the forefront of business, science and development.

Arup have been making a contribution to the city of Nottingham for over four decades, shaping many projects; particularly landmark developments focused around regeneration and sustainability.

In 2009 the Nottingham Contemporary art gallery opened in the historic lacemarket district. Arup designed the complex engineering that allowed a very challenging city centre site to be developed.

Arup’s engineering design for the award-winning Jubilee Campus at The University of Nottingham and the associated National College for School Leadership transformed a 20a brownfield site into an environmentally-friendly extension to one of the UK’s oldest universities.  The firm is now working to deliver high-quality development of historic Newton and Arkwright Buildings for Nottingham Trent University.

Recently opened, the new stand at Trent Bridge cricket ground was a host venue for the 2009 Twenty Twenty World Cup. Arup provided engineering design on the redevelopment of the ground, specialist lighting consultancy on the sports floodlighting and audio-visual consultancy on the replay screen. The floodlighting has been acknowledged as an exemplar for the future of the game.

Nottingham’s Old Market Square, the largest public square in the UK, was refurbished in 2007 with Arup designing all of the civil engineering and services, including the new water features as well as soft landscaping, pavements, utility supply and revised drainage.
