Arup sweeps Consult Australia Awards in 2016

29 Nov 2016

Arup enjoyed success at the Consult Australia Awards on Friday, 25 November 2016, winning three Gold Awards as well as taking the coveted title of Large Firm of the Year.

Arup has been recognised at the Consult Australia awards for many years for our projects, people and approach to collaboration.

“To be named Large Firm of the Year is a privilege as well as a testament to the passion and technical excellence our people bring to work every day.”

“Our clients and collaborators also share in this award – our collective desire to push the boundaries of design thinking as well as delivering great outcomes for people and communities is the driving force behind many of our projects.”

– Peter Bailey, CEO and Chair for Arup in Australasia

Perth Airport T1 Domestic and International Departures Expansion took Gold for the Collaboration category.

The design for both new facilities involved multiple stakeholders with highly complex operational processes, and the success of the project relied Arup's design leadership (delivered in conjunction with architect Woods Bagot) and having a thorough understanding of stakeholder requirements.

“The resulting design has delivered a number of exciting firsts for the Airport including a combined international and domestic service offering at T1, two A380 gates, the introduction of cutting-edges self-service technology and the ability for passengers to transfer seamlessly between regional, interstate and international services in one convenient location.”

– Kate West, Principal, Project Director, Arup in Perth

Arup’s unique approach to Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) for Virgin Australia’s new home in Perth Airport’s T1 Domestic Terminal also received Gold, this time for the Collaboration category.

“We implemented an ORAT strategy to minimise risk for the migration of Virgin Australia into the new terminal, ultimately providing stakeholders and passengers with a seamless launch and no disruption to existing operations.”

– Kate West, Principal, Project Director, Arup in Perth

Our work with Stockland on Aura – A Future Communities Initiative in Caloundra, Queensland, took Gold in the Sustainability in Design category.

“This award is testament to the collaboration of Stockland and Arup in envisioning the resilience and liveability of Australia’s largest masterplanned community. This honour recognises Aura’s unique design legacy and unsurpassed commitment to reimagine the way that the future generations including 50,000 residents shall live, interact and prosper.”

– Reanna Harper, Senior Consultant, Arup in Brisbane.

Arup continues to work closely with both Perth Airport and Stockland on additional projects off the back of these successful collaborations.
