Foisor Hospital

  • Renovation and extension of the Foisor orthopedic-traumatoly and osteoarticular tuberculosis hospital.
  • Upgrading technical requirements and functionality to the latest standards.
  • Undertaking renovation activities while the hospital remained fully operational.
  • Arup commissioned to manage the construction process, including the associated services.

Founded in 1892, the Foisor Hospital is the only state hospital in Romania for orthopedic-traumatology and osteoarticular tuberculosis. It had become too small to support the number of patients and the latest requirements for proper treatment, so the building needed an extension and a renovation.

On the site, which comprises 3,700m2, there were three original buildings, all built in different stages. Two of the buildings have been demolished and reconstructed, with the third one being renovated. Additionally, two new buildings are to be added to the complex. All five buildings will be functionally connected and integrated and once complete, will cover an area of 17,500m2.

Arup has been commissioned to manage the construction process of a compact hospital, adapted to the current requirements in the field of orthopedics and traumatology performance. In order to satisfy the needs of the hospital, it is remaining fully-functional during the renovation and rehabilitation works. Once complete, Foisor will have more surgical operations rooms, new technical equipment and an underground parking area.

The project is being delivered through a design and build contract for the construction works and hospital equipment procurement and installation. In-line with the client’s quality expectations, our professional team are covering all phases of the project: preparing tender documents (including employer requirements), assisting the client in the process of selecting a D&B contractor, site supervision during construction and defects liability period.

We are also providing: project management, cost management, change management, site monitoring and handover.
